Don’t be a Boss, be a Leader

The distinction between being a boss and being a leader can be the defining factor in the success of your organization. CEOs and executives often find themselves at the helm, facing numerous challenges that demand more than just authority – they require leadership. At the Institute for Executive Development (IED), we understand the critical role leadership plays in shaping organizations and offer a comprehensive suite of Leadership Services, including Leadership Development and Executive Coaching, to help you transcend mere management and become an inspiring leader.

Leadership Development

IED’s Leadership Development programs have been refining leadership skills for over 30 years. Our approach is designed to enhance the effectiveness of participants, encouraging active participation, reflection, and learning from others. We firmly believe that leadership development is not just about being in charge; it’s about leading yourself, your teams, your organization, and your community effectively.

  • Lead Yourself: Our programs focus on self-awareness, helping you assess and leverage your unique leadership style. We employ tools like the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator or Enneagram Assessment to gain insights into your strengths and areas for improvement. You’ll also learn to appreciate the value of diversity and understand the most and least effective leadership practices that enhance your success.
  • Lead Groups and Teams: Strengthen your ability to understand and work in teams. Our assessment tools, such as the Stages of Team Development, will help you evaluate your team’s dynamics, set goals, and make improvements. You’ll also enhance your skills in feedback management and learn to manage your boss effectively, thereby building greater understanding and support.
  • Lead Your Organization: Gain a deeper appreciation of strategic leadership and learn to navigate change and transformation effectively. We help you identify obstacles to successful change efforts and create a shared understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Lead Clients, Customers, and the Community: Understand the importance of catering to your customers’ needs and develop best practices for external communications. We ensure you have effective strategies for change and help you build on audience insights to enhance accessibility and ease of access to products and services.

Executive Coaching

At IED, we offer two distinctive approaches to Executive Coaching: The Marshall Goldsmith Stakeholder Centered model for leadership and our own Navigating Change & Transition Coaching. These client-centered programs guarantee measurable leadership growth and are tailored to your specific needs.

Marshall Goldsmith Stakeholder Centered Model for Leadership and Executive Coaching:

A. Gathering 360-feedback to Identify and Share a Development Goal: Our coaches conduct 360-feedback interviews to identify your strengths and areas for improvement. We then work with you to set a development goal, share it with stakeholders, and gather their input on strategies to achieve it.

B. Monthly Stakeholder Check-ins and Coaching Sessions: You meet with stakeholders monthly to gather anecdotal feedback on your progress and seek additional suggestions for improvement. You’ll also meet with IED coaches to strategize and identify new opportunities to implement your development goal.

C. Mid-Point Progress Review: Stakeholders complete an anonymous online mini-survey to provide quantitative ratings of your progress and qualitative descriptions of your strengths and areas for improvement. This feedback guides your continuous improvement efforts.

D. Conclusion of the Engagement: The program concludes with stakeholders completing a final survey, rating your progress on your development goal and overall leadership effectiveness. We’ll meet to review the results and recognize your achievements.

In summary, being a leader is not merely about managing people; it’s about inspiring them to achieve greatness. IED’s Leadership Services are dedicated to helping CEOs and executives transform themselves from mere bosses into influential leaders. By embracing Leadership Development and Executive Coaching, you can unlock your full potential and lead your organization to new heights.
